So, I didn't do much this Halloween. I graded HUGE stacks of papers instead. However, I'm feeling pretty good about this weekend since I did get a lot done. I feel like I've just been falling further and further behind every day, no matter how much I do, so it's nice to feel like I actually took more steps forward than I did back this weekend.
On to November!

October
Ahh! October is going. Too. Fast. I'm feeling completely swamped in everything right now. And friends/family members text or call me and say, "We should get together," and meanwhile I'm thinking, WHEN? All I did last weekend was grade, and I feel like somehow I'm falling even further behind. Ah well... maybe it's just October. I hope.
Recent frustrating lesson with one of my classes:
"So how would this story be different if it were in first person point of view?"
"It'd use 'me' or 'I'"
"Okay, true, but how would this story be different if it were written from that perspective?"
"It'd be in first person point of view!"
...arrgggh...

Summer
This summer is going FAST. I feel like, for the most part, we've been packing a lot in, though.
We bought a new car! Our cars are both the same age (8-9 years old) with lots of miles (99,000 and 155,000) on them, so we figured it'd be a good idea to buy one new car now, so that we avoid having to buy two new cars at the same time, since most likely, our cars have about the same lifespan. It's a Mazda3. We really like it! It's primarily going to be Wes's car, but it will replace my car in the sense that it will be the one we drive on longer trips now. (Before, anytime we had to go somewhere together, we would take my car). I remember going to car dealerships with my parents as a kid when we needed to buy a new car, and being deathly bored by it all, but when we bought our own I was grateful for the experience. We looked at the Honda Civic, the Nissan Altima and Sentra, the Hyundai Elantra, and the Mazda3. We didn't like the Elantra very much - you could really feel the road. The Altima was -nice-, but a little out of our price range. The Sentra was in our price range, but not as nice. The only one besides the Mazda3 I really liked was the Civic, but the Mazda3 was just as nice for cheaper. Anyway, we're excited! It makes me want to just drive places for no reason. I've never bought a car before - my old car was my parents', and was gifted to me when I became a junior in college and needed a car.
One of my best friends from high school is moving about five minutes from my house! I'm excited about that. I currently have one good friend from college who lives close, but other than that, I don't know anyone around here very well. So I'm really excited at the prospect of having TWO good friends live within five minutes of me!

Whoops!
So I have to get back into the habit of writing REGULARLY. It's been a few weeks... oops!
To be fair, though, the last couple of weeks have been crazy! They've been extremely fun, though. I thought I'd have so much free time this summer and yet this week is the first free time I've really gotten! It's been a really good busy, though. Our trip to Maryland was FANTASTIC. It's the first time that I've been to Maryland in the summer - the other two times I've been there were around Christmastime. Those were fun, too, but different. This one was a lot more relaxed, and involved a lot more vacation-like things... we went crabbing, which I have never done before and thought was really fun, and visited Annapolis and Baltimore... the Naval Academy graduation itself was really cool, too. The Blue Angels flew over... I have never been to the Air and Water show or anything like that before, so it was new to me. I thought it was really cool how close the planes were to each other while they flew. Joe Biden spoke, too - I've never been that close to a vice president before, so that was pretty cool, although I felt like his speech got off topic a little bit. Then again, he is a politician.
Since then, we've done a lot around the house...it's finally starting to come together and look like a home. We have almost all the rooms painted now - we just have the hallway/stairwell, the bathrooms, and our bedroom left to paint. I really feel like this place is ours. And we get new windows in the next month or two, which will be fantastic.
I'll write more later, just wanted to write SOMETHING in here so I didn't completely fail at restarting a blog.

First day of finals
I started removing the paper and borders from my bulletin boards today. It was so strange! It feels like I put them up (in the sweltering August heat) just recently.I can't believe I'm almost done with my first full year of teaching. It was...interesting. I enjoyed it for the most part, but there were definitely parts of it that I'm so glad are over. My freshman class was pretty tough, both classroom management wise and just developing a curriculum wise, since I had so little to work with at the beginning of the year (and so little time!). I will miss my sophomores though. My first period class was like the perfect class. They participated, they listened to me, and they really seemed interested in learning. I can't imagine having had a better class to start my day with in my first year of teaching.
Looking back, if I got the chance to do this year over again, I'd definitely do a lot of things differently, but I think given the time, materials, and experience I had at the beginning of the year, I did a really good job with what I had. While I would change things if I went back now, I don't think I could have possibly known to change those things without doing them the way I did in the first place, so I guess I don't have any regrets!
It is exciting to know that I have a job for next year. I'm so thrilled to be going into the summer with the knowledge that I will have an income next year and that I won't be scrambling to find a job a week or two before school starts like I was this year. It means that I can actually relax this summer instead of filling out countless job applications.
It doesn't quite seem real that it's the end of the year, yet.
